Mandy and Derek
After a last-minute rescheduling (that Derek will never live down), our first date happened in downtown Stamford. Derek didn't stand a chance at first and was quickly labeled an 'uber-nerd' by Mandy, but they somehow stayed for over 4 hours, laughing and leaving arm in arm.
First lesson learned! Don't..let..Mandy...get...HANGRY!
Derek....5 cups of coffee. Mandy....nothing to eat. This almost killed the date within minutes. Followed by the Oyster House in Grand Central being closed, the tacos at Chelsea Market couldn't come fast enough.
But from there, it was a great walk down The Highline, with drinks along the way. And rather than take a cab or subway home, we walked miles uptown to catch our train...and couldn't let go of each other the whole way.
By far, our most frequented vacation spot. We have been to Cape Cod and the surrounding islands 7 times together!
Our first trip to Nantucket, we stayed in an AirBnB right near downtown and was able to really enjoy the overnight feeling of the island. From lunch at Jetties Beach to midnight oysters at Cru to drinks upon return with Keri and Jose, it was a great time.
Mandy got bit by the island life!
We traveled down to Hilton Head and got to spend a week by the ocean with Mandy's parents. Lots of bike riding and an amazing time at Wiseguys Steakhouse.
Nothing like quality time at the pool...and wine, to bring us all together.
To celebrate Derek, we went somewhere neither of us had ever been.
It began in Zurich, sampling the culture and cheeses. Then off to romantic Lucerne, where the birthday boy was treated to amazing meals and shops and we gifted each other Swiss watches (of course). Then finally to the Alps, in a harrowing adventure up a snow-covered mountainside to our legitimate Swiss chalet, ending with a day at a lake-front spa.
We finally took the big step and went from two homes to one. The merger was surprisingly easy, requiring only a single storage unit for overflow, and we are blessed to have an amazing balcony and and pool/grill area.
It was almost scary how well it went...besides the death of the bachelor pad.
A last-minute trip, this was the definition of on a whim.
After a scared Mandy realized we were not going to be staying in the rundown hotel that shared the name of our resort, we had much needed relaxation and celebrated our first anniversary together in the Caribbean. It culminated with our first bachelor style date where we had dinner by candlelight on the beach with only a waiter and a musician as we watched the waves come to shore.
We traveled through Paris, drank under the Eiffel tower (albeit, in the rain), visited Versailles, and ate amazing cuisine. Mandy was able to give Derek a really good first impression of such an amazing city.
From there it was champagne tastings in Reims for Mandy's birthday (of course) before a few days in the Burgundy region where we got to visit some famous terroir and had a great drive through the country side.
There is nothing like tasting amazing wines at their source.
We sampled some of the best the San Fran area can offer.  Walked the diverse streets, took in a Giants game, and even took a boat ride on the Bay. Then off to Napa, which was everything we had hoped it would be.  We joined far too many wine clubs leading to us now having a collection to be proud of.
We got to hang with the Duffy's and meet their newest, Andreas as well as Mimi & Marvin's sweet little Alex. Then to Montana, where Derek met Mandyâs bestie Therese and her family, including her 4-month-old twin sons, of which we each bonded with a different twin.Â
He woke me with a phone call; I was groggy and a bit out of sorts; why would he call when he was here?
He let me know that there was breakfast ready and itâs time to wake up. I opened the bedroom door and saw that there was hot food waiting for me, along with coffee and champagne and a note.

Our friends and family who have helped us and we greatly appreciate that! Thanks for being part of this journey!
Derek's brother, who lives in Westport, CT with his wife Kristina and son Julian (who is also our ring bearer)
I have known Mandy for something like ten years. I have lost track. We met while we were neighbors, a time during which I learned my limit on White Russians. ð Through the years I have been thankful for Mandyâs storytelling and especially how she doesnât miss a detail. I doubt she knows how much I appreciated those stories. Unfortunately, they usually were about Mandyâs love life and her issues with dumb guys. I have wanted so much for Mandy to meet the right guy and am so glad that she has. I love Mandy and am so happy that she and Derek found each other. I assume this means she wonât come for sleepovers anymore, but I am guessing she will have plenty of stories. I expect these to be different though. I live with my husband Thomas and soon to be 8 year old son Eric in New Canaan, CT.
Mandyâs younger sister who lives in Portland, OR.
I've known Derek for almost 20 years and Mandy for about 2. I met Mandy through Mebus (Derek), shortly after they started dating. Mebus and I met at Union College in 1999 and have been best friends ever since! I'm an only child and he was quickly adopted into the family as âmy brother from another mother.â Iâm ecstatic to be gaining a sister-in-law now too! I live outside of Albany, NY with my boyfriend José and pets. I have a daughter, Emily and grandson, Wesley who live close by. I'm a Case Manager for Domestic Violence cases in Family and Criminal Court and spend most of my time between the courtroom and working with families.
Iâve had the privilege of knowing Mandy as a neighbor, wine aficionado, and friend for over a year and a half. We started up a wine club in our building a year ago and we have been strong ever since. Both Jersey girls we tell it like it is and are very open and frank. Besides wine, Iâm also passionate about seeing the world. Iâve been very fortunate to have lived in France and the UK and in total have been to 21 countries! My work allows me to continue to do so, in fact, I have just gotten back from a work assignment in Australia for 3 months. Iâm so happy to see Mandy so happy and am really excited about being a part of her special day!
Derek's friend since high school, they have been in search of the best taco ever since!
Derek's oldest friend, they knew each other from the days of sharing a crib. Their moms were friends, which made this all inevitable.
Derek's friend since Sean came to Pleasantville in the middle school years. They share a lot of RC history, and times with The YouTube.
Duffy and Derek have been friends since way back in the day. He was there for the car parties, he was there for the RC days, he was there...somewhat...for football. Lots of history here!
Derek's AWESOME nephew, he is a the coolest kid EVER!
